We celebrate the art of block-printing in a number of our designs. Each and every one of our prints is custom designed for India & Mills. This process takes a huge amount of skill, care and patience.

First, each print is drawn out, before being carved by hand into a shesham wooden block. To prevent warping, after the blocks have been carved they stand in trays of mustard oil for a few days. We then start the colour process. I draw on inspiration from the magnificent colours of India for all of my designs. Once I have chosen the colours to work with and matched them to my pantone book they are created by the colour master. He mixes them solely from intuition and experience.
Then the printing begins! The wooden block is dipped into trays of different coloured dyes, and then placed onto the fabric by hand with precision and care. One layer of colour is done at a time. The raw authenticity of block-print means that each piece may vary slightly, making them unique and special.
